WHO IS HOGG TRANSLATIONS?

Having started as a one-woman business in 1989, Hogg Translations has developed into a small translation agency that specialises in technical translations that bears the name of its founder Patricia Waller-Hogg. Today, Hogg Translations translates and interprets from and into most European languages, calling on an extensive network of translators.

WHEN IS HOGG TRANSLATIONS AVAILABLE?

Our office is open every weekday from 08:30 to 18:00 CET. You can reach us by telephone on +32 2 215 31 59 or email us.

HOW SHOULD I DELIVER A DOCUMENT FOR TRANSLATION?

We prefer documents in electronic form (in Word, Excel or PowerPoint), since we can then work directly in the document. It allows us to keep the same lay-out as the source text. If you only have a hardcopy or pdf file, we can work with those too. But in large projects or those requiring a lot of formatting work, this can lead to a surcharge.

IN WHAT FORMAT CAN I DELIVER TEXTS FOR TRANSLATION?

We work with the most common office programs, namely Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

CAN I SEND YOU TEXTS THAT I MIGHT MAKE CHANGES TO LATER?

Yes, you can. But we ask that you inform us of this beforehand. The best way is that you indicate the changes you have made afterwards in your source text. Then our translators can find the right place in their translations and make the changes themselves. Then you can be certain that the source text and the translation correspond for 100% and that the style remains the same in each language.

HOW IS THE PRICE OF A TRANSLATION CALCULATED?

Depending on the customer’s preference, we charge a rate per word or per line of the translation. That is why every offer is an estimate that is drawn up on the basis of the source text. Bear in mind that translations can be longer or shorter depending on the target language.

HOW QUICKLY CAN YOU GET MY TRANSLATION DONE?

We always meet the deadline agreed on and never make promises we can’t keep. Thanks to our extensive network of translators we can also deliver translations very fast in urgent cases without compromising on quality. We agree on the deadline depending on your needs and the availability of the translator.

CAN YOU GIVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF THE COSTS IN ADVANCE?

We will draw up an offer at our customers’ request.

WHY DO SOME LANGUAGE COMBINATIONS COST MORE THAN OTHERS?

Because it is harder to find a translator or interpreter for some combinations than others. It’s a question of supply and demand.

WHEN IS THERE A SURCHARGE FOR TRANSLATIONS?

A surcharge is only charged for rush orders, sworn translations or if the translator has to spend a disproportionate amount of time on layout. But we will always inform you if there is a surcharge in advance so you know exactly how much you will pay per word or line.

WHAT IS A RUSH ORDER?

If the translator has to work outside normal office hours due to the size of the project or a short delivery time, it is a rush order.

WHAT ARE 'NATIVE SPEAKERS'?

Native speakers are people who translate or interpret to their mother tongue. Most professionals work from various source languages. Hogg Translations only works with professional native speaker translators and interpreters with experience, since this guarantees the quality of the translation work. Language is alive. And only someone who has spent years living in a language and has the right education and training, will provide a translation that is not only grammatically correct but with the right tone and nuances.

WHAT IS AN INTERPRETER?

An interpreter provides a spoken translation. Depending on the situation, an interpreter can provide simultaneous or consecutive translation.

Simultaneous translation means the source language is translated into one or more target languages whilst the speaker is speaking. This occurs with interpreters sitting in booths, whereby their translations are sent to the audience via headphones, or with interpreters sitting or standing next to or behind the person(s) they are interpreting for and whispering the translation.

Consecutive translation means that the speaker gives his speech in sections and each section is then translated by the interpreter present before the speaker continues in his own language.

I NEED AN INTERPRETER, CAN YOU HELP?

Hogg Translations can help you find the interpreters you need for your event. In addition, we can advise you on the type of interpreting and how many interpreters you need. For each event we will help you determine which language combinations to choose and which equipment is best suited to your situation, leaving you free to focus on your event whilst we take care of the interpreting.

I HAVE A TEXT THAT NEEDS TO BE TRANSLATED INTO SEVERAL LANGUAGES / I NEED INTERPRETERS FOR SEVERAL LANGUAGES AT THE SAME TIME. CAN YOU HELP ME?

Of course we can. After all, we translate and interpret from and into most European languages. We can provide all kinds of language combinations. Every project is managed as a whole by one person. We will find the right translators or interpreters for you for each project.
